Ephesians 2:9

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast."

The Bible teaches that we are saved through faith in Jesus Christ. There is nothing that we can ever do that will earn us this gift. Good works, righteousness, obedience...none of that will save you. The only thing that will save you is for you to truly believe in and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. It is after that in which God transforms you and creates in you a new person.

Isaiah 64:6 reads:

All of us have become like one who is unclean,
and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

God is so HOLY, that our "righteousness" does not even come close to His holiness.

The Mormon church teaches the Gospel of Grace, a little different.

In the Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi 25:23 it reads:

"For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do."

AFTER ALL WE CAN DO......It is almost like saying, "I will do what I can, and Jesus can do the rest". No. Jesus paid for it ALL. Why would Jesus even have to die on the cross if we are doing some of the work? Jesus did all of the work. Jesus did not die in vain.

Mormonism teaches that your works will determine which level of heaven you go to. For instance, one must be married in the temple in order to make it to the celestial kingdom (the highest heaven).

Again, there is NOTHING that we can ever do to "earn" our way to heaven. It is a free and precious gift of Grace from God, and we should never even begin to think that we can work for it or earn it.

Changing Words to an old Christian Hymn

Today I was browsing around You Tube looking for some Hymns and Christian songs that I like. One of them was Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty. I came across a video of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing this very song. I was actually pretty surprised that they were singing it. UNTIL, the part that goes, "..God in three persons, blessed Trinity..." was CHANGED to "...God in his glory, blessed Diety". WOW. I couldn't believe it. How could they take a very very old Hymn that was written in the 1800's, and change the words like that? I know why. Because they want to appear to the public as normal Christians. Why would they even want to sing the song if they didn't agree with how the original lyrics were written? It just doesn't seem right to me.

The Veil in the Temple

In the New Testament of the Bible, the curtain, or the veil, in the Temple was torn into 2 when Jesus died on the cross representing Jesus opening the way for us to be reconciled to God through him dying on the cross to pay for our sins. If the Mormons claim that their Temples were mentioned in the Bible, then why is the curtain still hanging in their temple, untorn? It was torn into 2 peices, top to bottom in the New Testament.

Jesus' 2nd Coming??? Or will it be the 3rd?

Something that I have never thought of before is the fact that the Book of Mormon speaks of Jesus visiting the Americas. This is not what compatible with what the Bible speaks of. SO, technically, does this mean that Mormon's should refer to Jesus returning,as the 3rd coming of Jesus Christ instead of the 2nd??? Pretty interesting to think about...

What I am thankful for

I am thankful that Jesus Christ died for me. He would have died for me if I was the only person on the Earth. I am thankful that He has paid for my sins, and I am set free by Him. I am thankful that I can call on Jesus to help me through anything in my life that may come my way. I am thankful that we have an UNCHANGING God, that He has ALWAYS been God. (He was not a man on another planet who achieved his Godhood by being obedient and righteous!) He has always been Holy!! I am thankful that I was "pulled out" of the trap of Mormon Doctrine and that my name is stamped on Heaven's door! I know that I am going to be with the Lord when my time comes. I am thankful that Jesus has made me new inside and continues to transform me.

I am just wondering, for the people that are reading my blog, where you stand with the Mormon church? Are you transitioning into leaving the church? What brought you to this site? I have been out of the church for about 7 years now. It was the best decision I have ever made! I have come to know the true Jesus of the Bible. I by no means know everything, and I have a lot yet to learn, but I do know who Jesus is, what he offers, and that through him I have eternal life. Without Jesus I can do nothing. The Bible is the greatest tool to come to know Jesus and learn about God's word. From studying the Bible, the falseness of the LDS church has manifested so strongly to me. It is so clear, and so convicting. If anyone has any questions, or wants to share their story, please feel free to comment.

There is only 1 way to Salvation

"Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12 NIV)

Jesus is the only way. He is the gate. The Bible clearly teaches, that if we believe in and accept Jesus Christ as our Savior we are guaranteed eternal life. It is a gift for all who choose to receive it. If one does not accept Jesus, the person will surely die in their sins and not have eternal life. One can not get to the Father with out Jesus.

The LDS church teaches that by good works, and being a good person, all of that plays a role in which one of the three heavens we will go to. By any means, doing good works and being a good person are GOOD things that we should all strive for, but it does not have anything to do with the gift of eternal life that we receive from Jesus. The gift is not something that we "earn", but rather a gift of grace, free, to only those who believe and those who say "yes" to Jesus.

Deceiving Message

I heard some where that during the Christmas Holiday at a temple grounds, they had a set up or decoration display and on one of them it read the following scripture passage found in Isaiah 9:6:

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

This is a deliberate attempt to deceive. The LDS church clearly believes that God and Jesus are two separate individuals. I believe, by putting this scripture up for display, they are trying to gain more acceptance from "mainstream Christians".

Brigham Young

There have been some very interesting quotes made by Brigham Young, namely in the Journal of Discourses. If brought to the attention of any LDS person, the most common answer I get is, "The Journal of Discourses is not scripture, and Brigham Young may have been just giving his opinion...he is just a man." I agree. But see, here is the problem, the issue, the thing that doesn't make any sense. Brigham Young was a prophet and leader of the church. Wouldn't you believe what the prophet teaches? If he taught something that you didn't agree with, would that concern you at all?

There are many quotes made by Brigham Young that are troublesome. I will only mention one in particular for now. This one comes from the Journal of Discourses Vol. 11 Pg.269

"The only men who become Gods, even the Sons of God, are those who enter into polygamy" (Volume 11 page 269)

I just don't get it!

So, I have learned today that a certain someone (I will not mention any names, out of respect for that person) who I always thought was a "true believing Mormon" who was deep in their faith and committed...I have learned that they don't actually believe in the Mormon beliefs and doctrines at all! This is both good and bad. Good that they are not being deceived, that they are not believing false doctorines, but bad because they will not choose to tell their family, and they decide to "pretend" to be LDS. I hope a pray that they will feel the importance to be bold and not live a life of lies and fakeness. In reality, if that persons family is important to them, it seems they would WANT their family to also know the truth, and to expose the reasons why they don't believe in the church as well. Like my title says..."I just don't get it!"

I got Baptized!

I made the decision to get baptized yesterday. I am so happy that I did, and I am so excited to take that next step in my faith and walk with the Lord. It was one of the best experiences of my life.

My husband also got baptized that same day, along with 5 other people as well.

Trying to fit in

There is this blog that I sometimes look at every now and then. It is a blog written by an LDS women. She sometimes puts out a "quote of the day" blog post. She recently posted this:

No matter how serious the trial, how deep the distress, how great the affliction, [God] will never desert us. He never has, and He never will. He cannot do it. It is not His character [to do so]. He is an unchangeable being; the same yesterday, the same today, and He will be the same throughout the eternal ages to come. We have found that God. We have made Him our friend, by obeying His Gospel; and He will stand by us. We may pass through the fiery furnace; we may pass through deep waters; but we shall not be consumed nor overwhelmed. We shall emerge from all these trials and difficulties the better and purer for them, if we only trust in our God and keep His commandments. This quote is great! I agree with it whole heartedly and 100%! The quote seems very Christian, very "normal". See, the problem is, the God of Mormonism is NOT unchanging. He has changed in many ways. First, he was a man like us, and progressed (aka...changed) into becoming God. By being rightous and by doing good works, he became an exalted man...a God...Our God. The God of Mormonism is a changing God. The God of the Bible and of Christianity is an unchanging God. He has always been God, he will always be God. He is unchanging.

Is anyone following me here? Is anyone seeing what I am seeing?

LDS people like to publish these quotes on their blogs, and on the internet...anywhere to gain more acceptance, to "fit in". Anyone who does not know the history and doctrine of the LDS church, who comes across this "Quote of the Day" would look at this and think to themselves, "Ah, yes, Mormons do believe the same as us, there is nothing weird about them at all"

Where is Heaven?

So, another thing that is interesting to me is that the LDS believe that God resides nearest to a star named Kolob.

Abraham, Chapter 3, Verse 3:

And the Lord said unto me: These are the governing ones; and the name of the great one is Kolob, because it is near unto me, for I am the Lord thy God: I have set this one to govern all those which belong to the same order as that upon which thou standest.

I really don't have much else to say about it, but that it is strange to me. All I can say is, hmmmmmm......:)

Adam and Cain's Trangressions

One of the articles of faith by the LDS Church is: We believe we are responsible for our own sins and not for Adam's transgression.

Interesting thought. Reading that and thinking about that made my mind think about this:

If we are responsible for our own sins and not for Adam's trangressions, then why would black people not be responsible for their own sins and not for CAIN'S trangressions??? After all, the LDS church teaches that God put a "mark of black skin" on Cain, therefore all the Black people are descendants of him, and they are literally "paying" for Cain's transgressions.

Let me just make it clear that I DO NOT believe that God put a "mark of black skin" on him. The Bible says that God put a mark on him so that anyone who saw him would know it was him. No where in the Bible does it say that God made his skin black because of what Cain had done.

It's pure craziness to me. I would never understand how any black person would ever join the church knowing the history of when the church would not allow black males to hold the priesthood up until 1978. They claimed for it to be from God, that God did not want blacks to hold the priesthood. It sounds like God is a racist....but I know better. God is not racist, and he did not curse Cain with black skin.

"Anti-Mormon" and "Bashing"

This subject is very interesting to me...automatically, if I say something about the church, if I bring up a "challenge", if I give my opinion...I am automatically a called a "bashing anti-Mormon". LDS people are very very quick to get very defensive even if I want to merely discuss their church in a respectful manner. How is giving my reasons, giving my thoughts make me a horrible anti-Mormon? Everything I say is the truth...I am not making things up about the church. I challenge anyone who feels there is anything I say that is wrong about the church, to comment me and give me the exact thing that I am wrong about. Tell me I am wrong that Brigham Young taught that Adam is God, tell me I am wrong that Brigham Young said Jesus was not begotten by the holy spirit and so on...Because anything I say will have a reference, and you can find it for your self. I am not making these things up. History speaks for itself.

The Birth of Jesus Christ

The Bible and Mainstream Christianity (and most, if not all, Mormons) believe that the birth of Jesus Christ was a Virgin birth and that Mary was begotten by the Holy Ghost. We have known this all of our lives, it is what is taught in the Bible, we sing songs about Mary being a virgin at Christmas time, as so on...

It came as a big surprise to me that Brigham Young said some things that are completely different:

"When the Virgin Mary conceived the child Jesus, the Father had begotten him in his own likeness. He was not begotten by the Holy Ghost... Jesus, our elder brother, was begotten in the flesh by the same character that was in the garden of Eden, and who is our Father in Heaven... Now, remember from this time forth, and for ever, that Jesus Christ was not begotten by the Holy Ghost. I will repeat a little anecdote. I was in conversation with a certain learned professor upon this subject, when I replied, to this idea if the Son was begotten by the Holy Ghost, it would be very dangerous to baptize and confirm females, and give the Holy Ghost to them, lest he should beget children, and be palmed upon the Elders by the people, bringing the Elders into great difficulties." (Journal of Discourses, Vol.1, pg.50,51)

"I believe the Father came down from heaven, as the Apostles said he did, and begat the Saviour of the world; for he is the only-begotten of the Father, which could not be if the Father did not actually beget him in person." (Journal Of Discourses, Vol.1, pg.238)

"When the time came that His first-born, the Saviour, should come into the world and take a tabernacle, the Father came Himself and favoured that spirit with a tabernacle instead of letting any other man do it. The Saviour was begotten by the Father of His spirit, by the same Being who is the Father of our spirits, and that is all the organic difference between Jesus Christ and you and me." (Journal of Discourses, Vol.4, pg.218)

"The birth of the Saviour was as natural as are the births of our children; it was the result of natural action. He partook of flesh and blood - was begotten of his Father, as we were of our fathers." (Journal Of Discourses, Vol.8, pg.115)

"God has made His children like Himself to stand erect, and has endowed them with intelligence and power and dominion over all His works, and given them the same attributes which He himself possesses. He created man, as we create our children; for there is no other process of creation in heaven, on the earth, in the earth, or under the earth, or in all the eternities, that is, that were, or that ever will be." (Journal Of Discourses, Vol.11, pg.122-123)

"The man Joseph, the husband of Mary, did not, that we know of, have more than one wife, but Mary the wife of Joseph had another husband. On this account infidels have called the Savior a bastard. This is merely a human opinion upon one of the inscrutable doings of the Almighty. That very babe that was cradled in the manger, was begotten, not by Joseph, the husband of Mary, but by another Being. Do you inquire by whom? He was begotten by God our heavenly Father. This answer may suffice you---you need never inquire more upon that point." (Journal Of Discourses, vol.11, pg.268)

I understand that most LDS will say that they don't agree with Brigham Young's statements, which is good. I also understand that the Journal of Discourse is not considered scripture. The point is, it is a fact that Brigham Young believed and taught these things...and he was a prophet of God! I have heard people say, he was just a man, he is not perfect. That is very true. Imagine you lived in the time that Brigham Young was alive. Imagine hearing him preach these things with your own ears. Would you have had the courage to stand up and say that he is wrong? What happens if you question a Prophet? One can not deny that Brigham Young said these things. One can not say, "he was mis-interpreted", or he was "taken out of context". The Journal of Discourses is there, available for anyone to read on the BYU website. He said these things, and it should not be ignored.

Quotes from Joseph Smith

"...I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet . . . " (History of the Church, vol. 6, p. 408-409).

Boasting that he did such a work more than Jesus...that doesn't seem
right.

"My Father worked out his kingdom with fear and trembling, and I must do the same; and when I get my kingdom, I shall present it to my Father, so that he may obtain kingdom upon kingdom, and it will exalt him in glory. He will then take a higher exaltation, and I will take his place, and thereby become exalted myself." (King Follet Discourse)

This particular quote can be found in the April 1971 issue of the Ensign.

Pre-existence

The LDS church teaches that before we were born, we were all in a spirit world, or pre-existence. The Bible teaches that natural comes first, and then spiritual:

1 Corinthians 15:46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

According to the Bible, there was no pre-existence. Often, members of the church will counter with the following scripture:

Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

God is all knowing, so of course God knew Jeremiah before he was born. The scripture does not say that Jeremiah knew God, but that God knew Jeremiah.

The Book of Abraham

God's Power

I have always believed God is limitless, that he can do ANYTHING. He is all powerful and all knowledgeable. When I came across this passage written by John Witdsoe, in the book "A Rational Theory", it just reaffirmed my feelings about the church:

"God, the supreme Power, cannot conceivably originate matter; he can only organize matter. Neither can he destroy matter; he can only disorganize it.... The doctrine that God made the earth or man from nothing becomes, therefore, an absurdity" (Widtsoe, A Rational Theology, p.12).

Right away, there is a major problem. God cannot originate matter? God can not do something?? The words "God" and "can not" do not belong in the same sentence together. The God of the Bible teaches that God created the world ex nihilo...which means "out of nothing". The doctrine of the Mormon church says God used existing elements to create the world. For them to already be existing means someone had to create them...his God maybe??? Then we go back to the question, "How many Gods are there?" The Bible says 1. Always 1. Only 1. God created the world out of nothing. Often the reaction I get from my Mormon friends and family is: "How can the world just pop out of nowhere? How can he create it from nothing?"....my answer is, "He is GOD". That should be enough of an answer.

Milk Before Meat

I always wondered, "Why don't the missionaries tell potential converts all of the things they believe? Why do they with hold or omit information?" I got my answer the other day from a missionary himself. I asked a missionary that very question. He said it is "milk before meat", that the potential convert is not "spiritually ready" to handle such information. One missionary even said, "Well, we don't want to scare any body away". Personally, I feel the the "milk before meat" practice is dishonest. I feel that the least they could tell people is, "We are not going to tell you the whole gospel doctrine, and you will only learn small pieces at a time" It is better to be honest, than to lie or omit information...after all omitting the truth is lying. They want to seem as normal and mainstream as possible, to be able to fit in with mainstream Christianity, which Mormonism is very far from Mainstream Christianity.

How Many Gods Are There?

A question to ask Mormons is this: How many Gods are there? Most likely they will answer, "We only believe in and worship 1 God...our God". The truth is that they believe:

1) There are an eternity of Gods. That Our God has a creator.
2) Men can become Gods of their own planets and populate it with their spirit children.

For me it is simple. The Bible clearly teaches that there is, and always will be, only 1 God. Isaiah 43:10: Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

If no God was formed before him that would mean that God does not have a creator. If no God shall be formed after him, that means, man can not become Gods.
